The first edition of the OperaHPC Training School on Fuel Behaviour Simulation will take place from 19 – 23 January 2026 in Milan, Italy.

Organised in the framework of the OperaHPC project, the school is hosted in collaboration with POLIMI, EPFL, CEA, and JRC-Karlsruhe. It will run in parallel with the TRANSURANUS training course, sharing lecturers and theoretical modules.

The OperaHPC Training School is an educational event with practical sessions focusing on the OFFBEAT, SCIANTIX, and MMM codes, which provide advanced capabilities for fuel behaviour modelling.

The programme will cover key aspects of fuel behaviour, including:

  • Thermomechanical performance
  • Fission gas behaviour
  • Design basis accidents
  • Code validation

In addition, advanced topics such as multi-dimensional and meso-scale modelling will be addressed. Sessions will include hands-on exercises and group case studies, with results presented at the end of the week. University students seeking credit points will be evaluated accordingly.

A course fee of €200 per participant covers course materials, coffee breaks, lunches, and one dinner included in the school registration. The deadline to register is 10 October 2025 via the registration form.

To ensure effective guidance during practical sessions, participation will be limited. Selected participants will be contacted after the application deadline to finalise details.
