Young Researchers Network

CONNECT-NM has created a young research network to foster dialogue between the Partnership’s established scientific and technical community on nuclear materials and early-career researchers (PhD students, post-docs, young professionals and eventually MSc students). This network also contributes to build long-lasting links between the future professionals in the various areas of the nuclear materials field, thereby supporting their integration in the nuclear materials community.

Activities

First Workshop of the Network

The first event of this network was organised in combination with the second plenary meeting of CONNECT-NM on September 11, 2025 in Bratislava (Slovakia).

The programme consisted of

  • Introduction: objectives of the network and of the event
  • Presentations from industrials: large companies (EDF) and start-ups (NewCleo, Naarea) about their activities and needs. In addition, GRS, a TSO, was also presented.
  • Presentations of ENEN and of the Young Generation Network of the European Nuclear Society (ENS-YGN), to show the opportunities for young researchers in the nuclear field. The aim is that the CONNECT-NM young researcher network interacts with all these initiatives to boost effectiveness and optimise the use of resources.
  • A technical presentation linked to one research line of CONNECT-NM
  • Discussion with / between the participants on the organisation of the network
  • Visit of facilities of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava.

The young researchers were also invited to the second day of the plenary meeting of CONNECT-NM to exchange with the CONNECT-NM participants.

The organizing team included experts of CEA and RATEN in charge of the education & training activities of CONNECT-NM and a PhD student of Polimi. ENEN supported the organisation and the exchanges with the young researchers.

Webinars

The CONNECT-NM Young Researcher Network (YRN) is pleased to launch its webinar series, bringing together young researchers and experts from across the nuclear materials community. The first webinar was hosted in May, and the second one will happen on 9 July. Stay tuned for more to come soon!
