RAQOON

Project description

Many advanced nuclear fuels are doped uranium oxides or uranium oxide with inclusion of other phases, whose properties depend on their homogeneity. The RaQOON project (Raman testbed for Accelerated Qualification Of Operations with Nuclear fuel) proposes a testbed based on Raman spectroscopy to control the homogeneity of uranium oxide-based samples ranging from starting powders to green and sintered pellets and finally irradiated fuels, with the aim to assist the design of advanced fuel. Raman spectra of reference samples will be implemented in a database and used to automatically interpret complex Raman mapping of an unknown sample using Artificial Intelligence methods.
